I don,t think Linda Ikeji will ever switch to the WordPress platform due to the following reasons...
However despite all the three barriers (disadvantages) mentioned above. there's one thing that can still compel Linda Ikeji to switch to the self-hosted WordPress platform... which is uncertainty. It should noted that when a blog is hosted at the blogger platform, Google has the right to delete or disable the blog at anytime if they noticed that the blog has violated one of the policies of their blogging platform. For example on the 8th October 2014 Linda Ikeji's blog was suspended but restored on 10 October 2014 around midnight by Google for undisclosed reasons. Many of my blogs have been disaled and my contents wasted. Thats the disadvantage that has made many bloggers to switch from the free blogger platform to the WordPress blogging platform
Advice to the wanna be Linda Ikeji
Just like i used to advice the newbie bloggers, Blogger and the WordPress.com platforms are testing grounds. WordPress.org is the ultimate blogging platform. The longer you stay on the free blogging platform, the harder it takes to make the transition to wordpress. Thats why its adviceable to switch to the self-hosted WordPress.org platform after blogging on blogger and wordpress.com for more than 3 months.
- If she does that, she will be spending about 2/5 of the money she makes from her blog every month on webhosting i.e. she's will need to rent a dedicated server (which is very expensive) instead of signing up for the normal cheap shared web hosting service because her blog traffic is too huge.
- Secondly, if she switch to WordPress, she's going to lose the thousands of blog posts that she has written from 2006 (when she started blogging) till the day she made that transition. I know nowadays there are effective WordPress plugins that can enable people to easily import blog posts from blogger to wordpress (with few clicks of the mouse) but those plugins doesn,t import images and i,m very sure she won,t like to go through the stress of adding feature images to her thousands of blog posts one after the other (which can take months for her to accomplish).
- Thirdly, if Linda Ikeji switch to the WordPress platform, the searching engine ranking of her blog as well as her blog traffic is going to reduce due too much error 404. In otherwords the URL of her blogposts is going to change and this will cause her blog readers to always see the error 404 page not found message whenever they click on the URL of her old posts in the Google search results and that of other search engines (till Google reindex her wordpress blog). A reduction in her blog traffic will also lead to a reduction in the amount of money she makes from her blog per month.
